Our goal is to create a place where Caregivers can connect with each other, share their experiences, and be entertained by some of Canada’s most talented storytellers.
What is STORIES FOR CAREGIVERS?
STORIES FOR CAREGIVERS is a social platform currently being developed by The Coup Company as an online destination for Caregivers. Our focus:
Connect Caregivers with each other
Feature entertaining and engaging visual content for Caregivers
Stories have the potential to change the way we think and feel about providing care. Stories can share knowledge in entertaining ways, build empathy for better health care and social policies, and drive family and friends to available resources and communities of support. Stories can help us relax and escape the stress of daily life, if only for a few valuable moments. With support from The TELUS Fund, the STORIES FOR CAREGIVERS website aims to share these stories. This SHOWCASE is the first step in that endeavor.
What is the Showcase?
In 2017, the TELUS Fund introduced a new Special call for web series. The goal was to surface entertaining and engaging stories with the potential to positively impact individuals providing care for loved ones often struggling with a health condition. Many filmmakers applied, ten were selected, and these are their completed pilot episodes.
In advance of the launch of the final website, The STORIES FOR CAREGIVERS SHOWCASE invited audiences to WATCH the pilot episodes, SHARE them across social networks, and VOTE for their favourites. The results would help influence the decisions on which pilots would receive financing towards the creation of a full length web series. In June 2017, TELUS Fund selected Caring for Those Who Care, Who Cares?, and Who Cares with Dr. Yvette Lu for additional support.
Working together, the Showcase filmmakers were able to generate almost 30,000 video views over a three week period, and more than 10,000 votes were cast. This incredible response combined with the outpouring of support on social media has confirmed the strong interest in the subject of Caregiving in Canada and the potential of storytelling to make a positive impact.
Who are caregivers?
Simply put, Caregivers are individuals who have been charged with the care and well-being of anyone with a limiting condition. In Canada there are currently over 8 million active Caregivers, three quarters of whom are unpaid. These individuals juggle full time careers with unrecognized care for parents, spouses, and children leaving little to no free time for anything else.
In the next 30 years, the number of caregivers in Canada is expected to double. Are you ready to care for your loved one?
The Coup Company is a media studio that connects fans with creators and helps them realize the potential of building an audience early in the development of their ideas. We use this method to motivate creators into taking an entrepreneurial approach to content creation.
