In western society we often place great importance on cognition and intelligence. This leads to the assumption that when the brain goes, the person is gone. This episode explores the Confucianist belief of the two selves: the cognitive and the heart. With this belief in mind, we examine how we can provide more compassionate care and see the worth in all, regardless of cognitive ability.

Special thanks to Dr. Neena L. Chappell for her contribution to this episode.
