Karen adopted twin boys at four months old, and after three years of “self-diagnosed bad-parent syndrome,” she finally learned that they were both highly autistic. For the past 17 years since that diagnosis, Karen’s caregiving responsibilities have not allowed her to have an adventure of her own… until now! Together with Dr. Mike Lang, a health researcher and adventure guide, Karen sets out on a snowshoeing and dogsledding adventure with the goal of exploring both her caregiving experience and the beautiful Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia. Accompanying them is Dr. Lisa Belanger, a behaviour change expert, and together they learn how caregivers can use nature to rest and rejuvenate themselves. Throughout the adventure, Karen learns many valuable lessons that will help her find the energy to continue caregiving for the next 20 years.
